An accurate RANS-based transition prediction approach (part I)

Abstract We present a numerical procedure to improve the performance of classical Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes approach for transitional flows by introducing transition prediction tool in RANS code. A black-box able estimate first boundary layer quantities (starting from pressure distribution) and then compute linear evolution fluctuations has been included an existing Thanks coupling e N method, location is predicted periodically imposed during computations. The proposed this paper predict laminar flow extension based on framework between high-fidelity, Reynolds–Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) Linear Stability Equations. According equations are written conical formulation solution onset obtained through method PSE calculations. validation achieved comparing results against experimental data documented ETRIOLLA project.
